Changing a Domain Controller - Part 1
Feb 11th, 2007 by MuZumbu
About 2-3 months ago we discovered that our domain controller machine is about to fail. Had already two hard-disk failed and was running only with 4 hdd, no mirrors … so the probability of data loss was extremely high. So, we decided to buy a brand new server. Of course it took 3 months to get to us but when we finally got it we were so happy with the new machine.
And we started replacing the domain. First of all we started searching google to see what programs we could use to move data and share / user permissions the easy way. We found a couple of programs but when I started testing them , well let’s just say they didn’t work like it said on the site.
So … there was no other solution but doing it manually. That turn out to be a bad option as we spend 2 day at work without going home or sleeping. Man , that was an adventure … but how it went and what we did to make things good I’ll tell you in my next post.
Bye for now.
